Welcome to the New HMC Website!
The Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) is an independent, non-profit, registered charity organisation whose main aim is to certify the production of genuine Halal food. HMC complies with the UK Laws for food production, as well as Islamic dietary compliance Laws.
HMC promotes animal welfare, issues of food safety, hygiene and quality in compliance with UK Law and within the teachings of the Islamic faith. HMC works with companies who are involved in the production and supply of Halal food, to independently certify all products to provide assurance to the Muslim community that all food meets the high standards of Halal.
HMC was established when questions on the authenticity of Halal were discovered by scholars (Ulama) who visited and inspected UK Halal plants.
HMC is governed by an independent board of elected members comprising of mainly Islamic Scholars and other individuals - referred to as the Executive Committee (EC). The board’s focus is to provide spiritual and Islamic guidance on all HMC matters. The EC work on a voluntary and unpaid basis. Further support is given to EC by Local Area Groups in around 35 UK cities & towns, who work to promote Halal awareness issues and promote the development of genuine Halal in the UK.
There are many issues with Halal in the UK. An unprotected word that has led to the availability of so called ‘Halal products’ that often fall short of the requirements of the Islamic faith. Examples include: Halal meat that is injected with pork proteins; Animals that have been killed using machines and often without the recitation of the blessed ‘Tasmiyah’ (blessing) to name just a few.
HMC now offers the Muslim community a credible alternative and a new choice for Halal, based on a unique inspection certification system. When visiting your local butcher or restaurant always look out for the current, up to date HMC certificate & yellow window sticker providing you with “Your Seal of Assurance” for Halal!

Earlier this year, the Daily Mail published an article about pork hidden in donner kebabs.
