Welcome to the New HMC Website!

The Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC UK) is an independent, not for profit, registered charity organisation whose main aim is to certify the production of genuine Halal food. HMC complies with the UK Laws for food production, as well as Islamic dietary compliance Laws.

HMC promotes animal welfare, issues of food safety, hygiene and quality in compliance with UK Law and within the teachings of the Islamic faith. HMC works with companies who are involved in the production and supply of Halal food, to independently certify all products to provide assurance to the Muslim community that all food meets the high standards of Halal.

HMC was established when questions on the authenticity of Halal were discovered by scholars (Ulama) who visited and inspected UK Halal plants.

HMC is governed by an independent board of elected members comprising of mainly Islamic Scholars - referred to as the Executive Committee (EC). The board’s focus is to provide spiritual and Islamic guidance on all HMC matters. The EC work on a voluntary and unpaid basis.  Further support is given to HMC by over 600 Mosques in UK cities & towns, who support HMC due to the systems and processes we have put in place to ensure genuine Halal.

There are many issues with Halal in the UK. There are many so called ‘Halal products’ that often fall short of the requirements of the Islamic faith. Examples include: Halal meat that is injected with pork proteins; Animals that have been killed using machines and often without the recitation of the blessed ‘Tasmiyah’ (blessing) to name just a few.

HMC (UK) has gained its confidence throughout the country through a unique monitoring and inspection system. This now offers the Muslim community a credible alternative and a new choice for Halal, based on a unique slaughterhouse to shop monitoring methodology.

There are many Halal certification organisations in the UK, but we believe that there is no value in any certificate without a robust system in monitoring and inspection to give confidence to the consumers. In the past 18 months we have invested and continue to invest in our personnel, systems and website to ensure the consumer is able to consume genuine Halal.
